China’s April soybean imports from Brazil jump

Previously delayed soybean imports from Brazil arrived in China boosting the country’s imports by 2.6%, according to a Reuters report citing port data.

Heavy rains in March caused a lag in transportation of the commodity, which made April imports from Brazil total 5.939 million tonnes, up from 5.786 million tonnes in the previous year.

The stalled delivery of soybeans caused China’s inventories to decrease and leading some crushers to slow production. Supply shortages have begun to diminish with new shipments arriving.

China is expected to import 9 million tonnes or more of soybeans a month May through July from Brazil, Reuters reported.
